When someone mentions The Shining I, like google, think of Jack Nicholson in the 1980 movie. Yes I knew it was a book, but it was just one of those things that I never really bothered reading. Then on a whim, which had nothing to do with seeing the price at 1.99 for Kindle (I imagine as a promo for the sequel Dr. Sleep), I decided to check out the original story and there’s a couple things that occurred to me.
- I’m not a Stephan King devotee or “true fan.” I haven’t read all of the Dark Tower series or anything like that. With that said, does King like magical black people? But it appears I’m ten years late with this observation.
- In most of the developed world this story couldn’t happen. If this story was set in Korea it would have to take place in a sauna or Dokdo island. Then again there are plenty of movies set in hotels, even in Korea.
